How does the program work?
Weight Care is a holistic medical treatment for sustainable weight loss which includes:
A body composition analysis shows your total body weight, the balance of muscle mass and how body fat is distributed. Because weight-loss medications can cause muscle loss, we take this measurement at your appointments to monitor fat percentage and muscle mass — so your weight loss is sustainable and preserves muscle.
If you have a video consultation, you can book an in-clinic appointment during operating hours to have your body composition scan taken.
About the medications
They help in several ways: reducing cravings, suppressing appetite by slowing how quickly your stomach empties, preventing overeating by lowering blood sugar, and lowering your body fat percentage.
Weight loss is usually rapid at first and slows after a few months before stabilising. This plateau is normal and expected — it doesn’t mean the medication has stopped working.
For many people, staying on the medication helps maintain a healthy weight. Some do manage to maintain their weight after stopping — it’s best to discuss the right approach with your physician.
Beyond weight loss, benefits include better blood sugar control and a reduced risk of heart disease and kidney failure, thanks to the medication’s cardioprotective effects.
Combining the medication with an optimised diet and regular physical activity gets you the most benefit — improving glucose control and energy while helping you sustain your weight loss.
Long-term use helps maintain a healthy weight and keeps blood sugar controlled. For people with type 2 diabetes, it lowers the risk of long-term effects such as heart and kidney disease, and users show meaningfully lower blood pressure than with a placebo.
The medication is not suitable for:
Others
Possible side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, bloating, headache, heartburn, abdominal pain, burping and indigestion. Allergic reactions such as hives, swelling or a rash are also possible.
Weight-loss medications are considered safe for long-term use, and studies show a 20% reduction in the risk of heart disease and stroke in people with obesity. There is a slightly higher risk of gallbladder disease with longer-term use, but the risk is extremely small.
